Selecting Service is so difficult
As I am sure you know if you are reading this selecting a service is so difficult. Some want a down payment while others don't. This service was quick and easily and my billing has been great. The send me weekly updates on my usage. Also they did not charge me a down payment which was great.
Good deal
Like all aspects of the experience so far so good
Tara has worked well for me.
Smooth transition to Tara from my previous provider. No billing or other issues. Probably halved my electricity bill by going with Tara Energy.

WONDERFUL COMPANY
When I read all the reviews here i was thinking if I am working with another company and hoping that this bad things will not happen to me one day!I am using the Electricity from Tara Energy almost 2 years and I have no problems.I paid all my bills online with no problem.I agree with something that their web site is really not good but other than that I didn't have any problems.I wish to have a little bit cheaper rate plan that is all :)Most of my friends had lots of problems with other electric companies like electricity cut and etc.I am happy that I didn't have a bad experience like that.Hopefully I will not in the future.My Plan is finishing in March 2014 and I am still thinking to continue with the same company but I am also checking different companies with maybe a little bit low rate plans:)

I've really had no problems with Tara - I love their flat rate and know I'm always getting what I pay for.
So far so good...3 years experience
Never have had a problem, other than they move the due date slightly every month. I have to call then every so often to get them to move the date back where it is supposed to be. It is drafted from my account each month, so it is important to me to be a consistant date. The price has been going up slightly each renewal. I can get a lower rate elsewhere...but after reading the ratings on some companies...it is a gamble as to the customer service you end up with...no one wants their eletricity cut off for stupid reasons...So I renewed once again...may consider switching next time if I can find a company that has good ratings on customer service. Would like to see a special rate for repeat, well paying customers.

It is time to renew or switch my electic plans since my 12-month contract with Tara is up and I thought I would share my Tara experience with you. Tara has met all contract agreements including a very good price. My bill and my father's bill are emailed to me monthly and I pay electronically thru our banks with no extra charges. With have had zero issues. It is time to renew and they offered four reduced rate plans. No complaints from me.

Consistent service
I originally signed on with Tara about a year plus ago for my apartment. The sign up for easy and once I setup the auto draft, i had no issue. I moved to a house and the transition from apartment to house was also smooth and easy. Never had an issue with service. I am only changing due to the fact my contract is up and I am interested in shopping for better rates. The rate i had was fixed at 10cents/kwh. It's a fair rate, but I see better rates so I am shopping around! I would recommend Tara.
No Problems
I used Tara energy for a year as they were the least expensive the last time I signed up. I did not have any problems and payed all of my bills online. I never had to contact customer support so I cant speak to that. I am changing providers now simply because I can get a better deal. Overall I was satisfied with their service.
Where is the website...
Everytime I try to check in on my account, their website is down; can't say how incredibly frustrating that is. On the other hand, I sing their praises when I receive my bill, since I am saving in the neighborhood of $100-$200 a month during the summer with their great rates. So, I'll deal with the spotty website availability...

Collections notice
Came home today to a collections notice from Amigo Energy. I have never had service through them. The collections department was closed, so I called Amigo directly. I was informed my bill was from Tara Enerfy from last April. I had changed to a new provider when my contract with Tara ended. I paid the next bill I received and thought I was done. In the past 14 months I have had no further communication with Tara Energy. So, imagine my surprise to learn I had an unpaid final bill balance that was being sent to third party collections effective 5/22/14. Of corse the notice was received after the cut off and after collections business hours. Had I received a bill, I would have paid it promptly, but they never billed me. The explanation from the customer service rep was that they recently changed billing systems and noticed many unpaid bills. So, I guess instead of refilling, they just sent it all to collections when they never billed to start with. I can't even get into the website to make payment, as the option is greyed out. Nice!!! Have scheduled payment through my bank, but it won't arrive u til a week from now. I'm going to be seriously pissed off if this hits my credit. Will be filing a complaint through the PUC.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
I would not recommend Tara Energy to anyone today. I have been with them for over 2yrs and everything started out fine, however they have recently made some changes in the customer service and it's gone downhill fast! The reps are NOT knowledgable and if they dont want to deal with you they put you back in que for someone else to handle it. I have even had someone hang up on me....terrible terrible terrible customer service. I asked to speak with a manager and of course they were not available so I left a message and never received a call back. TERRIBLE!

Very bad and over billing
This is the worst power energy ever. I got my first bill at $40 and average of $50 but toward the end of the contract I started having $350+ they are robbers in broad day. Go and run as far as you can this people are thief and they have the worst customer service. How can I get $350+ when I also use gas? I am not joking, RUN AWAY AS FAR AS YOU CAN if you don't want to be rob like they did to me.

Worst Power Energy
Tara Energy is the worst ever. RUN million miles away from this fraud of a company. They started with $40 a bill, towards the end of my contract with them they gave me a bill of $350+ following months. That is day light robbery...RUN away as far as you can.

Over price
I've been with Tara Energy for eight years. I've been in my home for seven years and I've never had a bill over $90.00. My house is a smart house. My bill for June was $95.28. I and spoke with Agent Bernasdo who ran my history and stated he understood why I was concerned. He escalated my issue to a supervisor that was supposed to call me back and I never received a reply from them.

Lied about early termination fee
At sign up they said if I moved to an area that they did not service I would not owe a early termination fee. I moved to silsbee tx and they do not service this area...they sent my account to collections and are harrassing me. I paid my last bill less early termination fee and they told me they were investigating and it would take 30 to 45 days yet I'm in collections after 2 weeks

Worst Company I have ever dealt with
I shop around for cheaper rates and have had many Service Providers. This is by far the Worst company I have ever dealt with!!! Creating a Log in was not pleasant and logging on for the first time was a nightmare. Customer Service is nonexistent. Even emailing them for a simple question will not get you an answer. You will get an automated response informing you to call them (and be placed on hold for 30 min). Followed by 4 to 10 returned emails from them, from people I didnt even email, their email system has some kind of bug.The initial rate for me was 8 cents but jumped to an incredible 14 cents after the 3 month contract ended, with a horrible 12 cents to renew.I no longer have them and am still waiting for them to return my deposit.My experience with them was so bad that I would never renew even at a 5 cent rate

Liars, thieves, and fradulant. Beware. Choose anyone else please!!
With out permission Tara energy switched my service. My electricity company caught it and it was switched back the same day!! I called Tara energy and the man said we get away with this all the time. They have now lied to me, transition, Equifax and better business bureau. They put 200.00 on my credit bureaus. It did not effect me one bit and is laughable. Just don't want this to happen to any one else

Turn off service on Weekends
My name Nghis Tran 65 years old. Call Tara disconnect service on Monday 07/19/2021. But company disconnected on Saturday and Sunday. No confirmation. Bad bad service, I never recommend this company. I will complain to PUC .

False info to get costumers
They offered to take care of changing provider fee , and that everything will me automatic, but that fee was never covered with my other company. So it is a charged pa Im not a customer anymore and they won't take care of that fee because I'm not a current costumer.

Fraud Company
This company is fraud company. My bill was low in the beginning during the peak summer and not in the winter it has gone double. Last week, I turned off my all power for a week and still bill gone up.

Customers beware. Start cheap but will go up. They promise rewards and discounts for being a customer for years and dont deliver.
They Send your account to their collections after paying in full, don't ever send a bill, and then dont answer the phone, after many calls.

Something has changed
I've been a customer with Tara Energy for almost 10 years that says that they have been providing great service but something has changed the service I got today was absolutely terrible. They wanted to make sure that I gave a bad review for them they told me one thing and I did what they asked but they did not hold up to their end of the bargain when I call back holding for 30 minutes each time I was hung up on and I know it was intentional because they verified my telephone number to call me back if the call was disconnected I did not get a call back. I don't know what has happened with this company but this type of service is unacceptable. They expect me to honor my word as a customer and I expect them to do the same as a company. I just signed a new contract and I am feeling very uneasy about it. I don't trust them anymore. I need recommendations for a good reliable electricity company in Dallas Texas

The most horrible service!!
One day I left my apartment in Houston and I got charge 250$ on my bank account without any explanation or letter. so what happened they say that I recived a machine or device to save electricity and I don't!I chancel the charge and since that day they are calling me 3 time in a day and sending me collection emails.I never in my life all for this machine that they say that I ask or got! every time I'm calling I'm waiting over 20 min on the line because there is no manger. shame on you. if you will not take care of this we will meet at the court.the worst company ever !!!! be careful. its always better to pay more for better service

Highway robbery !!
I want to take the time to share my story and experience that I had with Tara energy . I have been a loyal customer in there for many years paying my bill on time and never having issues. In the past year my bill and always stayed around 142 $160 a month But this past summer they decided to go to $.20 a kilowatt and not tell me my contract was up and let this go for several days and then decided to call me to renew my contract with them . All the while very convenient for them I now have a $500 electrical bill if theyre not willing to forgive or even come down on cost. I feel it was very convenient for them to charge me more than triple the cost In July In Texas. I will never use this electrical company again I will do my best to warn others to go elsewhere .

Do NOT use Tara
Do NOT use this company. I have never done an online review and they are so horrible I had to do this. I moved and I called to get electricity shut off in one week. I was very clear on the date. They shut it off immediately. Got it back the next day but was hot overnight. Called the day I moved to have it shut off immediately and it is still on a month later and I just found out because they sent a bill so i am on the phone trying to get it shut off. have been on hold 30 minutes while they work on it. Stunningly poor customer service.

Horrible service
If a client has a commercial account then put that number on the bill or make that number readily available. Just wasted 4 hours of my only day off trying to sign in and pay a bill online which wont let me because its a commercial account then i call for help and get a call be 1 hour later and am told that they need to call me back again. I am changing companies and willing to pay for for good prompt customer service.
Tara Energy, the worst Power Company I ever dealt with.
This morning I paid a bill for 3,891.53 to a lady named Naghmana at Tara Energy. She charge my Company card $38,910.53. As soon as I received the e-mail Confirmation of the payment, I realized that the lady had charged way too much. I called Tara Energy again, and after a hold for a long time, I was told by the other lady that Naghmana was not available, then I demanded to speak to a supervisor, then again I had to wait a very long time, then the supervisor finally came over the phone. When my supervisor explained to her about the overcharge, she promised that the charge will be reversed. It is 3.43 PM, and the charge is still not reversed. Our card was overcharged by the amount of $35,019.00. This is a very bad Company. I had very bad experience with this Company several times in the past also.
I dislike Tara Engery
I have been having trouble,since returning to Canad,on April,5,1915.my bills were ok, but higher from the 2 year contract,I had with Tara engery.I have been getting higher bills when nobody is there then when I was there for 5 months..I think they must be reading my smart meter wrong..My place is only 350 square feet .Last year when back in Canada,my largest bill was no larger then $19.00 ,my last bill was $60.00 plus dollars.I will be looking for a cheaper provider .I will never recommend this company to anyone.Tara Engery is gouging me.
Worst customer service
We had several commercial accounts with Tara Energy and recently they had switched to Tara Enery Resources and our accounts were switched to this also. They did not bill us for a few months and we were not aware that we were not getting billed and then we get a huge bill that they expected us to pay in full. I called accounts receivable and explained to them that it was their error for not billing each month and that I would not be able to pay the huge amount at one time. They made a payment arrangement for me to pay it in three payments and I gave our bank information so they could draft the first payment. The representative told me she would call me the following month so I could authorize the next payment. To my disbelief I find out the next day that the whole amount which was huge was debited from our account without authorization. No one was willing to take responsibility for the error. I was furious and have closed the account and have gone to a different energy company. We will not be doing any future business with Tara Energy and will not recommend them to anyone also
Useless Billing Department
We used them for two years. In the final couple of months they failed to take payments twice. The first time, the first that we knew of it was when they wrote to threaten to cut our power off and the second, they neither issued nor collected our final bill but today (two years later) we received a letter from a debt collector. Lovely.We auto paid all bills and received bills electronically, I'm not sure how this happened. We pay our bills on time and had we been notified that payment had not been received, would have immediately rectified. No attempts were made to call or write to us when bills were apparently overdue.Can't complain about customer service in terms of the experience of calling Tara, the representatives are always courteous and helpful.
Worst Customer Service Ever!!!
So sometimes in my statements I get charged extra fees for some reason, I then have to spend about a good hour of my time to get those random fees resolved. Afterwhich if I have to pay my account I have to get transferred to a different department and because I have many accounts under one Master when I pay they distribute the payment that I did so that some accounts will have a credit and then I end up having late charges on the other accounts that I have paid. Collection calls even though I paid my Total amount and it is their fault they distribute the amounts the way they want. When I ask questions about my billing and I call customer service no one knows why I have the fees I do and why my balance is different on the bills they send me and the balance that they have on file. They just transfer me from one person to the other and they end up telling me that I should get in contact with my agent? But they somehow do not even know who that guy is or how I can get in contact with him. It is very rare to find a representative that will take the time to figure out the bill and explain and maybe even if i'm lucky fix the issue. I do not trust the online bill payment because it does the same thing of disbursing the money in other accounts. I don't think their procedures work, at least for commercial accounts and employees have no idea what is happening with billing. I give each of these survey questions 1 bulb for at least answering the phone.
Horrible customer service
I have tara energy from almost two yrs now... Recently, i moved and transferred their service to my new apartment.. But for some reason they charged me an early termination fee... I have called them 4 times already to get that 250 refunded.. Every single time they say that they took care of it and i will see the credit in 3-5 business days, BUT ITS A LIE SO FAR. I still have their service and i have been going through this hassle more than a month now. They have horrible customer service... Tara energy sucks! As soon my contract expires, ill be going to TXU or Reliant.. I rather pay little more for a reliable company than going through this hassle.. Also, when i requested the service transfer to my new apartment and disconnect service at that current location at the end of the month they didn't waited till the end they just disconnect at the same day and we had to live in a motel that night... Can you imaging living without electricity in Texas? We tried calling their emergency hotline numbers... But they did no good... It was all automated system... It was seriously frustrating! DO NOT GET TARA!
Biggest Thief On The Planet
They survive only by fraud and over charging the costumer.Be care they most expensive and lots of hidden fees be careful and three times to sign the contract with this company.
They will take your credit card or Bank Acct so don't hand over your acct to these thieves.
Not satisfied with this service
I have been with Tara now about a year an one month an looking to switch. They don't try to help you if you need your due. Date pushed back they only give you a day after when its due I have never heard are seen in other light company that do that at least. They give you. A week. Are maybe 3 days but one day this is poor I. Would never tell anyone to go to this company ...Truly unsatisfied
Fine...Until Now
Late last year, I received a call from Tara Energy, my REP, offering a "free" SmartStat thermostat as an introductory offer. I agreed and the unit was installed on January 7, 2013. I was assured the unit would pay for itself in saving me money and WAS TRANSFERABLE should I decide to change Retail Electrical Provider (REP).At the end of June 2013, my contract with Tara was expiring and I signed up with Summer Energy as their rates were lower. Today, I received a final bill from Tara for $662, which included a $495 charge for "breaking" my SmartStat contract because Summer is not SmartStat compatible. I was not informed by either company - Tara or Summer - that Summer was not compatible or that by switching to a non-compatible energy company I was breaking the contract.I am absolutely livid over this and have thusfar received no acceptable assistance from Tara. A Customer Service representative told us we had the option of having the unit removed for $100, but when attempting to "verify" this with their manager, we're then told removal is not an option and we are subject to the $495 payment no matter what. Requests to speak to upper management are met with vague explanations of them "not being available" but empty promises that someone will call us back.No one in their right mind would knowingly "break" their contract to the tune of $495. My argument is not that Tara charges $495 for terminating the contract. I agree this is on fine print on the back. My argument is that I HAD NO IDEA I WAS BREAKING THE CONTRACT BY SWITCHING TO A NON-COMPATIBLE REP.In my disgust and frustration, I have since contacted several consumer watchdog groups (including the Dallas Morning News Consumer Advocate Dave Lieber) regarding this matter and will continue to do so until I am satisfied with the resolution and when Tara is exposed for their poor treatment of customers. I've also filed an informal complaint against Tara Energy with the Public Utilities Commission of Texas
Very Difficult to deal with
Every month for the last 4 months, I have some problem with paying my bill. Whether they forget to send me a bill, mess up charging my card or get my card shut off, there is always some kind of hassle. They also raise your rate by a lot if you try to reup your contract. I cannot wait to stop having them as my electric company.
Rates are not worth hassle
I have been a customer for about 5 years. I pay my bills using my online banking. When I pay every other account I NEVER have an issue with them processing the payment. With TARA I have to make sure the payment gets there before the due date because it can take them 4-5 days to process the payment. During my last incident. Payment was due on 4th. On the 8th they generated a disconnect letter which I received on the 9th. When I called asking about it, the rep told me payment was posted on the 5th, but it was finished processing until the 8th. Their practice is to generate disconnect letters automatically 4 days after the due date even if payment is recd prior to then. So, we are supposed to give them 4 -5 days to process my payment, but they won't give me any time before they decide to threaten to disconnect service. Totally confused, I asked why I still got the letter even though my payment was processed before the end of the 4th day. She just repeated that they have to process the payment to make sure I have funds for it. So essentially, they SEND you the letter the morning of the 4th day. Seems like they could save a lot of $ by waiting longer for them to process payments.NO OTHER company (phone, cell, cable, gas, water, credit card...) that I using online banking with has this sort of practice. In the 5 years that I have been a customer. my payments have been late 2x by one day because of online banking.My advice is - if you want to use this company, pay with cash or auto bill pay through them, otherwise make sure your payment is there 4-5 before it is due. I assume if you pay with a check it would need to go thru processing issue as well.I am currently looking to switch.
Terrible customer service.
Everything was relatively fine while receiving service, except for a few emails that were never replied to. At the end of my contract, the company automatically renewed and charged me for the upcoming month. By the time service was cancelled, 6 days of said month had passed. Prior to the expiration I received emails telling me to renew but none telling me to disconnect. The company is still trying to charge me $90 for the month of March when I received 6 days of service. I do not believe I am obligated to pay $90 for a month of electricity when no electricity was actually used (empty apartment) for the six days out of said month. I'll pay 1/5 of that price for customer error and that seems like a reasonable prorated amount. I have said so in an email but have again received no response.
Not the worst, but..
This is not the worst company I've ever dealt with, but their customer service and website are crap! You can't pay your bill online because the links are perpetually grayed out (I've tried every browser) and all of their CSRs are rude as heck. This company is only worth it if you have a bad track record with other companies; they don't make you pay a deposit.
Avoid them, for many reasons
I have auto bill pay, but when my bank upgraded their system, many payments got dropped. I wasn't aware that Tara didn't get my payment until I received the disconnect notice in the mail. I was 5 days late in paying them (for a bank issue), after having never been late before and they were going to disconnect me over it. The hassle of getting off the disconnect list caused rippling effects which ended up costing me money and tons of hassle. Their customer service is also only open M-F during normal business hours (when I work) so it made it all that much more difficult to get it cleared up. When I finally got to talk with them about it, they said they have the right to disconnect if I'm ever late with a payment (even the first time, regardless of who is at fault). Nice. I'm switching as soon as my contract expires. 11 days and counting.
Worst Power Co EVER!!!
Worst electric company that I have EVER dealt with out of more than 12 electric companies (in both large and small towns) across the Country. RUDE customer "service", will charge you a late fee and send you a disconnect notice if paid even a DAY late...NO exceptions!! Don't care WHEN you get paid, they just want THEIR money!! My advice, don't just avoid doing business with them...RUN away from them!! We are supposed to have a 1 year agreement with them, but in the 6 weeks we've been with them, we have ALREADY had 3 "experiences" with them Doubt we will make it a year!! We may just take their $150 "early termination" charge and BE DONE fighting with them!! WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THESE PEOPLE TO MY WORST ENEMY!!
WORST ELECTRIC CO. I'VE EVER DEALT WITH!!
We just signed up with them last month because they were "recommended" by our new Apartment community and we already regret that decision!If you don't pay your bill ON or before the EXACT date they decide it's due, they will IMMEDIATELY charge you another 5% AND send you a Disconnect Notice...even if you pay it a day later! AND, they refuse to work with you on the due date or give you ANY kind of a "grace" period.We have to get by on SS Disability and are paid only once per month. The most recent bill is due on the 30th, and.we don't get paid this month until the NEXT DAY. Tried to explain this to them, but, besides being rude, THEY DIDN'T CARE and are going to charge us an "extra" $10.00+ "late fee" for ONE DAY!!We have been with them for just 6 weeks and have already had THREE "WTF" run-ins with them. We are SUPPOSED to have a 1 year agreement with them, but I'll be surprised if we actually put up with their "crap" for that long.Figured it out and, over the years, I've dealt with about a dozen different power companies in towns both big and small. TARA ENERGY IS BY FAR THE WORSTCOMPANY that I've EVER dealt with!! Don't just avoid them, RUN FAR AWAY!!
Just signed up, but regret it
I just signed up with this company and I already regret it deeply. So far, I've spoken with 10 different reps (all very nice btw) that cannot seem to resolve my problem. They've charged me a $275 deposit (that I wasn't aware they would charge). I finally got someone on the phone that finally told me that I can send in my past 3 months, paid, on-time receipts from my old electric company and they would waive the deposit. So I did this...sent in my last 3 invoices. Well, they denied my request. No explanation.
I let them know that I'm not happy with the service so far and that I'll be canceling promptly after my contract term. I will go with my old company, Startex, after that as they did not require any deposit from me and they honored my history of on-time payments.
Termination Fees
I realize we live in an age where companies force you to stay in business with them instead of providing quality goods and services. I wanted to stay with Tara Energy but wanted the lower rate they were offering since I only had 1 month left on my contract. They would rather me go with another company than renew my contract one month early. I just thought I would post because it seems so dumb. Anyways, off to the next crooked energy company.

Very bad and over billing
This is the worst power energy ever. I got my first bill at $40 and average of $50 but toward the end of the contract I started having $350+ they are robbers in broad day. Go and run as far as you can this people are thief and they have the worst customer service. How can I get $350+ when I also use gas? Over price
I've been with Tara Energy for eight years. I've been in my home for seven years and I've never had a bill over $90.00. My house is a smart house. My bill for June was $95.28. I and spoke with Agent Bernasdo who ran my history and stated he understood why I was concerned. He escalated my issue to a supervisor that was supposed to call me back and I never received a reply from them.

Lied about early termination fee
At sign up they said if I moved to an area that they did not service I would not owe a early termination fee. I moved to silsbee tx and they do not service this area...they sent my account to collections and are harrassing me. I paid my last bill less early termination fee and they told me they were investigating and it would take 30 to 45 days yet I'm in collections after 2 weeks

Worst Company I have ever dealt with
I shop around for cheaper rates and have had many Service Providers. This is by far the Worst company I have ever dealt with!!! Creating a Log in was not pleasant and logging on for the first time was a nightmare. Customer Service is nonexistent. Even emailing them for a simple question will not get you an answer. You will get an automated response informing you to call them (and be placed on hold for 30 min). Followed by 4 to 10 returned emails from them, from people I didnt even email, their email system has some kind of bug.The initial rate for me was 8 cents but jumped to an incredible 14 cents after the 3 month contract ended, with a horrible 12 cents to renew.I no longer have them and am still waiting for them to return my deposit.My experience with them was so bad that I would never renew even at a 5 cent rate

With out permission Tara energy switched my service. My electricity company caught it and it was switched back the same day!! I called Tara energy and the man said we get away with this all the time. They have now lied to me, transition, Equifax and better business bureau. They put 200.00 on my credit bureaus. It did not effect me one bit and is laughable. Something has changed
I've been a customer with Tara Energy for almost 10 years that says that they have been providing great service but something has changed the service I got today was absolutely terrible. They wanted to make sure that I gave a bad review for them they told me one thing and I did what they asked but they did not hold up to their end of the bargain when I call back holding for 30 minutes each time I was hung up on and I know it was intentional because they verified my telephone number to call me back if the call was disconnected I did not get a call back. I don't know what has happened with this company but this type of service is unacceptable. They expect me to honor my word as a customer and I expect them to do the same as a company. The most horrible service!!

Highway robbery !!
I want to take the time to share my story and experience that I had with Tara energy . I have been a loyal customer in there for many years paying my bill on time and never having issues. In the past year my bill and always stayed around 142 $160 a month But this past summer they decided to go to $.20 a kilowatt and not tell me my contract was up and let this go for several days and then decided to call me to renew my contract with them . All the while very convenient for them I now have a $500 electrical bill if theyre not willing to forgive or even come down on cost. I feel it was very convenient for them to charge me more than triple the cost In July In Texas. I will never use this electrical company again I will do my best to warn others to go elsewhere .

Do NOT use Tara
Do NOT use this company. I have never done an online review and they are so horrible I had to do this. I moved and I called to get electricity shut off in one week. I was very clear on the date. They shut it off immediately. Got it back the next day but was hot overnight. Called the day I moved to have it shut off immediately and it is still on a month later and I just found out because they sent a bill so i am on the phone trying to get it shut off. have been on hold 30 minutes while they work on it. Stunningly poor customer service.

Selecting Service is so difficult
As I am sure you know if you are reading this selecting a service is so difficult. Some want a down payment while others don't. This service was quick and easily and my billing has been great. The send me weekly updates on my usage. Also they did not charge me a down payment which was great.

Tara Energy, the worst Power Company I ever dealt with.
This morning I paid a bill for 3,891.53 to a lady named Naghmana at Tara Energy. She charge my Company card $38,910.53. As soon as I received the e-mail Confirmation of the payment, I realized that the lady had charged way too much. I called Tara Energy again, and after a hold for a long time, I was told by the other lady that Naghmana was not available, then I demanded to speak to a supervisor, then again I had to wait a very long time, then the supervisor finally came over the phone. When my supervisor explained to her about the overcharge, she promised that the charge will be reversed. It is 3.43 PM, and the charge is still not reversed. Our card was overcharged by the amount of $35,019.00. This is a very bad Company. I had very bad experience with this Company several times in the past also.

Tara has been a great choice for us. We have been with them for about 3 years and the prices and perks get better each time we sign re-commit to using their service.
Fair and Cheap energy
I switched to Tara from BOunce Energy, and I am very glad that I did. I am paying a much cheaper rate and I have had no issues with this provider. Hopefully, they will still be one of the cheapest when I re-up in 6 months.
Collections Notice
Thoroughly unsatisfied with Tara gouging me when my contract rolled, I switched providers...then several months later got a collections notice from an out of state collection agency. I assumed it was legit, and paid it. Now, almost 2 years later, I get another collection notice...claiming an unpaid balance still due Tara. Avoid Tara / Avoid headaches! I simply don't trust these people.
I dislike Tara Engery
I have been having trouble,since returning to Canad,on April,5,1915.my bills were ok, but higher from the 2 year contract,I had with Tara engery.I have been getting higher bills when nobody is there then when I was there for 5 months..I think they must be reading my smart meter wrong..My place is only 350 square feet .Last year when back in Canada,my largest bill was no larger then $19.00 ,my last bill was $60.00 plus dollars.I will be looking for a cheaper provider .I will never recommend this company to anyone.Tara Engery is gouging me.
Worst customer service
We had several commercial accounts with Tara Energy and recently they had switched to Tara Enery Resources and our accounts were switched to this also. They did not bill us for a few months and we were not aware that we were not getting billed and then we get a huge bill that they expected us to pay in full. I called accounts receivable and explained to them that it was their error for not billing each month and that I would not be able to pay the huge amount at one time. They made a payment arrangement for me to pay it in three payments and I gave our bank information so they could draft the first payment. The representative told me she would call me the following month so I could authorize the next payment. To my disbelief I find out the next day that the whole amount which was huge was debited from our account without authorization. No one was willing to take responsibility for the error. I was furious and have closed the account and have gone to a different energy company. We will not be doing any future business with Tara Energy and will not recommend them to anyone also

I've never had a need to contact customer service, which in my opinion is even better than having a good experience with customer service.
Useless Billing Department
We used them for two years. In the final couple of months they failed to take payments twice. The first time, the first that we knew of it was when they wrote to threaten to cut our power off and the second, they neither issued nor collected our final bill but today (two years later) we received a letter from a debt collector. Lovely.We auto paid all bills and received bills electronically, I'm not sure how this happened. We pay our bills on time and had we been notified that payment had not been received, would have immediately rectified. No attempts were made to call or write to us when bills were apparently overdue.Can't complain about customer service in terms of the experience of calling Tara, the representatives are always courteous and helpful.
Won't change the billing cycle!
I have only been a customer for a couple of months and I have not problems thus far with the rates. The problem I do have is that they won't let me change the billing cycle. The bill is due the 26 or 27th of every month and I am living paycheck to paycheck right now. There is NO way I'm going to be able to pay that bill on the 26th, but I can pay it on the 1st. However, they won't let me change the billing cycle so I'll be getting a discontinue notice every month and my payment will be late every month. This in turn will eventually mess up my credit score. I can't believe a major company won't allow a customer to change the billing cycle. How does that make sense? I'm waiting for a supervisor to call me and if they won't work with me, I'm going to report them to the BBB. They don't tell you this stuff when you sign up and that's just wrong. If I can get this resolved I'll give them nothing but glowing reviews, but if not that tells me that their intention is to cheat and that's a no-no.

So sometimes in my statements I get charged extra fees for some reason, I then have to spend about a good hour of my time to get those random fees resolved. Afterwhich if I have to pay my account I have to get transferred to a different department and because I have many accounts under one Master when I pay they distribute the payment that I did so that some accounts will have a credit and then I end up having late charges on the other accounts that I have paid. Collection calls even though I paid my Total amount and it is their fault they distribute the amounts the way they want. When I ask questions about my billing and I call customer service no one knows why I have the fees I do and why my balance is different on the bills they send me and the balance that they have on file. They just transfer me from one person to the other and they end up telling me that I should get in contact with my agent? But they somehow do not even know who that guy is or how I can get in contact with him. It is very rare to find a representative that will take the time to figure out the bill and explain and maybe even if i'm lucky fix the issue. I do not trust the online bill payment because it does the same thing of disbursing the money in other accounts. I don't think their procedures work, at least for commercial accounts and employees have no idea what is happening with billing. I give each of these survey questions 1 bulb for at least answering the phone.

Great company...smart phone app helps a lot for keeping track of your bills and payments.I have been Tara's customer since 2003 and never had to call the customer service.
Collections notice
Came home today to a collections notice from Amigo Energy. I have never had service through them. The collections department was closed, so I called Amigo directly. I was informed my bill was from Tara Enerfy from last April. I had changed to a new provider when my contract with Tara ended. I paid the next bill I received and thought I was done. In the past 14 months I have had no further communication with Tara Energy. So, imagine my surprise to learn I had an unpaid final bill balance that was being sent to third party collections effective 5/22/14. Of corse the notice was received after the cut off and after collections business hours. Had I received a bill, I would have paid it promptly, but they never billed me. The explanation from the customer service rep was that they recently changed billing systems and noticed many unpaid bills. So, I guess instead of refilling, they just sent it all to collections when they never billed to start with. I can't even get into the website to make payment, as the option is greyed out. Nice!!! Have scheduled payment through my bank, but it won't arrive u til a week from now. I'm going to be seriously pissed off if this hits my credit. Will be filing a complaint through the PUC.
Horrible customer service
I have tara energy from almost two yrs now... Recently, i moved and transferred their service to my new apartment.. But for some reason they charged me an early termination fee... I have called them 4 times already to get that 250 refunded.. Every single time they say that they took care of it and i will see the credit in 3-5 business days, BUT ITS A LIE SO FAR. I still have their service and i have been going through this hassle more than a month now. They have horrible customer service... Tara energy sucks! As soon my contract expires, ill be going to TXU or Reliant.. I rather pay little more for a reliable company than going through this hassle.. Also, when i requested the service transfer to my new apartment and disconnect service at that current location at the end of the month they didn't waited till the end they just disconnect at the same day and we had to live in a motel that night... Can you imaging living without electricity in Texas? We tried calling their emergency hotline numbers... But they did no good... It was all automated system... It was seriously frustrating! DO NOT GET TARA!

They survive only by fraud and over charging the costumer.Be care they most expensive and lots of hidden fees be careful and three times to sign the contract with this company.
They will take your credit card or Bank Acct so don't hand over your acct to these thieves.
Im switching providers tara is horrible
They sat up a payment plan and tell me the wrong date.so they cutt my electric off I called it took about 40 mins to talk with someone on the issue and they credited my account for the date I was told first.so now I'm in the.dark for 2/6 hrs I hate them.
Tara Energy sucks - Beware of hidden monthly charges
Be care ful in signing up with Tara energy, customer service is very polite during sign up process and do not explain hidden fees. I have a 2/2 apartment and am being charged 19.95 for consumption less than 1000KW per month. I called customer service and they refuse to understand that I was never explained about the minimum usage. I was told I was supposed to pay attention to contract and details mentioned in the welcome package sent to me by Tara Energy. Please be careful before signing up with Tara Energy. I have been paying 19.95 extra for 5-6 motnhs of 9 months contract period. Just waiting for my contract to expire.
Billing and Account Management
I pay my bill on line through my bank and every month I receive a disconnect notice and a late charge added to the bill. I contact my bank every month and the issue is resolved. This company has found a way to make money off of their customers by issuing late charges even though the payments are not late. Most customers would disregard the notice and pay the late fee. This must add up to a substantial amount for Tara every month. I would not recommend this company and consider that they are caring my money in order to improve their profit margin.
Consistent service
I originally signed on with Tara about a year plus ago for my apartment. The sign up for easy and once I setup the auto draft, i had no issue. I moved to a house and the transition from apartment to house was also smooth and easy. Never had an issue with service. I am only changing due to the fact my contract is up and I am interested in shopping for better rates. The rate i had was fixed at 10cents/kwh. It's a fair rate, but I see better rates so I am shopping around! I would recommend Tara.
Not satisfied with this service
I have been with Tara now about a year an one month an looking to switch. They don't try to help you if you need your due. Date pushed back they only give you a day after when its due I have never heard are seen in other light company that do that at least. They give you. A week. Are maybe 3 days but one day this is poor I. Would never tell anyone to go to this company ...Truly unsatisfied
WONDERFUL COMPANY
When I read all the reviews here i was thinking if I am working with another company and hoping that this bad things will not happen to me one day!I am using the Electricity from Tara Energy almost 2 years and I have no problems.I paid all my bills online with no problem.I agree with something that their web site is really not good but other than that I didn't have any problems.I wish to have a little bit cheaper rate plan that is all :)Most of my friends had lots of problems with other electric companies like electricity cut and etc.I am happy that I didn't have a bad experience like that.Hopefully I will not in the future.My Plan is finishing in March 2014 and I am still thinking to continue with the same company but I am also checking different companies with maybe a little bit low rate plans:)
Fine...Until Now
Late last year, I received a call from Tara Energy, my REP, offering a "free" SmartStat thermostat as an introductory offer. I agreed and the unit was installed on January 7, 2013. I was assured the unit would pay for itself in saving me money and WAS TRANSFERABLE should I decide to change Retail Electrical Provider (REP).At the end of June 2013, my contract with Tara was expiring and I signed up with Summer Energy as their rates were lower. Today, I received a final bill from Tara for $662, which included a $495 charge for "breaking" my SmartStat contract because Summer is not SmartStat compatible. I was not informed by either company - Tara or Summer - that Summer was not compatible or that by switching to a non-compatible energy company I was breaking the contract.I am absolutely livid over this and have thusfar received no acceptable assistance from Tara. A Customer Service representative told us we had the option of having the unit removed for $100, but when attempting to "verify" this with their manager, we're then told removal is not an option and we are subject to the $495 payment no matter what. Requests to speak to upper management are met with vague explanations of them "not being available" but empty promises that someone will call us back.No one in their right mind would knowingly "break" their contract to the tune of $495. My argument is not that Tara charges $495 for terminating the contract. I agree this is on fine print on the back. My argument is that I HAD NO IDEA I WAS BREAKING THE CONTRACT BY SWITCHING TO A NON-COMPATIBLE REP.In my disgust and frustration, I have since contacted several consumer watchdog groups (including the Dallas Morning News Consumer Advocate Dave Lieber) regarding this matter and will continue to do so until I am satisfied with the resolution and when Tara is exposed for their poor treatment of customers. I've also filed an informal complaint against Tara Energy with the Public Utilities Commission of Texas

I have my buisness ,as well as my residence electricity, with Tara energy. I have been with them going on 5 years now. I have never had any problem with them in terms of billing or customer service.I have a locked fix flat rate on both my accounts and i am very happy with that.Thank you Tara!
Very Difficult to deal with
Every month for the last 4 months, I have some problem with paying my bill. Whether they forget to send me a bill, mess up charging my card or get my card shut off, there is always some kind of hassle. They also raise your rate by a lot if you try to reup your contract. I cannot wait to stop having them as my electric company.

Rates are not worth hassle
I have been a customer for about 5 years. I pay my bills using my online banking. When I pay every other account I NEVER have an issue with them processing the payment. With TARA I have to make sure the payment gets there before the due date because it can take them 4-5 days to process the payment. During my last incident. Payment was due on 4th. On the 8th they generated a disconnect letter which I received on the 9th. When I called asking about it, the rep told me payment was posted on the 5th, but it was finished processing until the 8th. Their practice is to generate disconnect letters automatically 4 days after the due date even if payment is recd prior to then. So, we are supposed to give them 4 -5 days to process my payment, but they won't give me any time before they decide to threaten to disconnect service. Totally confused, I asked why I still got the letter even though my payment was processed before the end of the 4th day. She just repeated that they have to process the payment to make sure I have funds for it. So essentially, they SEND you the letter the morning of the 4th day. Seems like they could save a lot of $ by waiting longer for them to process payments.NO OTHER company (phone, cell, cable, gas, water, credit card...) that I using online banking with has this sort of practice. In the 5 years that I have been a customer. my payments have been late 2x by one day because of online banking.My advice is - if you want to use this company, pay with cash or auto bill pay through them, otherwise make sure your payment is there 4-5 before it is due. I assume if you pay with a check it would need to go thru processing issue as well.I am currently looking to switch.
False promise of energy savings and rebates on installing an ecobee thermostat through Just Energy selling through Tara Energy.
Just Energy (through Tara energy - our energy provider with whom we had a 6 months contract remaining) sold us monthly service of renting an Ecobee thermostat charging us 14.99/mo indefinate contract (fine print - sales guy said 1 yr) with promise of improved energy saving and rebates. They cannot show us any savings/rebates on our account as they cannot get to our account as we didnot register. We could not register as Product was not correctly installed, so that all its features were not available to us. Calling technical line didnt help as they said our internet provider was at fault (Verizon Fios) and we are to call them. Now cannot return unless we call their installation person to remove it at $250 or buy out the product at $495 regarless of what we have paid montly before. We cannot continue service unless we sign further contract with Tara Energy (whose rates for signing a new contract raises our prices by more than 20% compared to other providers). Very Hard to get customer service on the phone - long wait times (15 mins+) and reps give varied answers. When asked to call supervisor, they won't come on the line. When said will complain to BBB, said go right ahead.

Tara Energy only thrives as a result of charging high late penalties and disconnect fees. Their customer service reps are rude and non hepful(completely useless). I'm suprised this company hasn't been shut down by the state due to their business practice. If you're thinking of signing up PLEASE read the very fine print. If you miss your due date by one day you'll pay a percentage late penalty. ON the fourth day after your due date a disconnect notice is automatically generated that will cost you $22. With out a doubt the WORST electric provider i've ever dealt with, and I've dealt with Amigo energy(also horrible). Do yourself a favor and AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!.
So far so good...3 years experience
Never have had a problem, other than they move the due date slightly every month. I have to call then every so often to get them to move the date back where it is supposed to be. It is drafted from my account each month, so it is important to me to be a consistant date. The price has been going up slightly each renewal. I can get a lower rate elsewhere...but after reading the ratings on some companies...it is a gamble as to the customer service you end up with...no one wants their eletricity cut off for stupid reasons...So I renewed once again...may consider switching next time if I can find a company that has good ratings on customer service. Would like to see a special rate for repeat, well paying customers.
Terrible customer service.
Everything was relatively fine while receiving service, except for a few emails that were never replied to. At the end of my contract, the company automatically renewed and charged me for the upcoming month. By the time service was cancelled, 6 days of said month had passed. Prior to the expiration I received emails telling me to renew but none telling me to disconnect. The company is still trying to charge me $90 for the month of March when I received 6 days of service. I do not believe I am obligated to pay $90 for a month of electricity when no electricity was actually used (empty apartment) for the six days out of said month. I'll pay 1/5 of that price for customer error and that seems like a reasonable prorated amount. I have said so in an email but have again received no response.
Not the worst, but..
This is not the worst company I've ever dealt with, but their customer service and website are crap! You can't pay your bill online because the links are perpetually grayed out (I've tried every browser) and all of their CSRs are rude as heck. This company is only worth it if you have a bad track record with other companies; they don't make you pay a deposit.

As I sit here and review this on my phone, because Tara Energy has AGAIN cut off my service for "non-payment", I am furious. I use Wells Fargo bill pay and somehow Tara Energy can't seem to get their act together and credit my payments appropriately. The first time this happened, I had no idea there was a problem until my service was shut off. After waiting half an hour to get a human being on the phone, I was instructed to send in my bank statements to prove I had paid and then I was told to "call them back to make sure they received everything." Are you kidding me? I have to call you to make sure you do your job? Well as it turns out, they didn't and only when I called to follow up did they get the payments applied. First time: 2 hours of my time. Now today service was cut off again because payments were not applied correctly. I have a bathroom remodel in progress and now this error is going to cost me more time.I just wish I had known there were going to be these problems before (I used to work for a large trade association in Texas and I actually helped get this outfit endorsed. I will be letting them know.
Avoid them, for many reasons
I have auto bill pay, but when my bank upgraded their system, many payments got dropped. I wasn't aware that Tara didn't get my payment until I received the disconnect notice in the mail. I was 5 days late in paying them (for a bank issue), after having never been late before and they were going to disconnect me over it. The hassle of getting off the disconnect list caused rippling effects which ended up costing me money and tons of hassle. Their customer service is also only open M-F during normal business hours (when I work) so it made it all that much more difficult to get it cleared up. When I finally got to talk with them about it, they said they have the right to disconnect if I'm ever late with a payment (even the first time, regardless of who is at fault). Nice. I'm switching as soon as my contract expires. 11 days and counting.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
I would not recommend Tara Energy to anyone today. I have been with them for over 2yrs and everything started out fine, however they have recently made some changes in the customer service and it's gone downhill fast! The reps are NOT knowledgable and if they dont want to deal with you they put you back in que for someone else to handle it. I have even had someone hang up on me....terrible terrible terrible customer service. I asked to speak with a manager and of course they were not available so I left a message and never received a call back. TERRIBLE!
Stay away from Tara Energy!
Worst 'customer service' ever! My closing got delayed on the home I'm purchasing. I called to reschedule as soon as I found out, which was 1 day prior to the start up date. Tara Energy couldn't find an account for me, but after 3 tries using different info, they found it. I was told it was no problem to postpone my start date and rescheduled it for 1 week out. The next afternoon, I got a message saying they started my service anyway. When I called to resolve the mistake, I was told there was nothing that could be done, even though the other people still owned the house, lived there, and had not stopped their service with Tara Energy! When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was put on hold for 5 minutes, then the same person got back on the phone to tell me the only 'option' for me was to cancel the service and pay the $250 early termination fee, then pay for the days I already 'used' (even though I don't even live there or own the house yet!) and then pay a start up fee when I'm ready to begin the service. This was a ridiculous solution since it would cost more to do that than to just pay for the power for the other people to live in the house for another week! I was then placed on hold another 5 minutes waiting for a supervisor before I hung up the phone. I am already disgusted with this company and haven't even closed on or moved into my new home. I had never heard of this company, but thought it would be logical to make the transition easy since the other people already used this power company. Was I ever WRONG! Please learn from my post and the numerous others on here......DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH TARA ENERGY!!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!!

Worst electric company that I have EVER dealt with out of more than 12 electric companies (in both large and small towns) across the Country. RUDE customer "service", will charge you a late fee and send you a disconnect notice if paid even a DAY late...NO exceptions!! Don't care WHEN you get paid, they just want THEIR money!! My advice, don't just avoid doing business with them...RUN away from them!! We are supposed to have a 1 year agreement with them, but in the 6 weeks we've been with them, we have ALREADY had 3 "experiences" with them Doubt we will make it a year!! We may just take their $150 "early termination" charge and BE DONE fighting with them!! WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THESE PEOPLE TO MY WORST ENEMY!!

We just signed up with them last month because they were "recommended" by our new Apartment community and we already regret that decision!If you don't pay your bill ON or before the EXACT date they decide it's due, they will IMMEDIATELY charge you another 5% AND send you a Disconnect Notice...even if you pay it a day later! AND, they refuse to work with you on the due date or give you ANY kind of a "grace" period.We have to get by on SS Disability and are paid only once per month. The most recent bill is due on the 30th, and.we don't get paid this month until the NEXT DAY. Tried to explain this to them, but, besides being rude, THEY DIDN'T CARE and are going to charge us an "extra" $10.00+ "late fee" for ONE DAY!!We have been with them for just 6 weeks and have already had THREE "WTF" run-ins with them. We are SUPPOSED to have a 1 year agreement with them, but I'll be surprised if we actually put up with their "crap" for that long.Figured it out and, over the years, I've dealt with about a dozen different power companies in towns both big and small. TARA ENERGY IS BY FAR THE WORSTCOMPANY that I've EVER dealt with!! Don't just avoid them, RUN FAR AWAY!!
Just signed up, but regret it
I just signed up with this company and I already regret it deeply. So far, I've spoken with 10 different reps (all very nice btw) that cannot seem to resolve my problem. They've charged me a $275 deposit (that I wasn't aware they would charge). I finally got someone on the phone that finally told me that I can send in my past 3 months, paid, on-time receipts from my old electric company and they would waive the deposit. So I did this...sent in my last 3 invoices. Well, they denied my request. No explanation.
I let them know that I'm not happy with the service so far and that I'll be canceling promptly after my contract term. I will go with my old company, Startex, after that as they did not require any deposit from me and they honored my history of on-time payments.
Termination Fees
I realize we live in an age where companies force you to stay in business with them instead of providing quality goods and services. I wanted to stay with Tara Energy but wanted the lower rate they were offering since I only had 1 month left on my contract. They would rather me go with another company than renew my contract one month early. I just thought I would post because it seems so dumb. Anyways, off to the next crooked energy company.
Be very careful of the bait and switch game
I received a renewal offer and selected a specific plan for 8.2 cents per kWh and no minimum useage fee. When I tried to elect this plan by calling their customer service line, they acted as if no plan existed. Rather than argue I completed the mail in renewal form and sent it to Tara Energy a month beofre its due date. They received the form and placed me on a diferent plan of 10 cents per kWh and a minimum useage fee. I called them back, explained what had occurred and they would not help in any way. I have filed a comlaint with the PUC and am awaiting their investigation. When I spoke with the PUC they explained that they are receiving many complaints and that this company is under investigation. Go elsewhere, the limited saving is not worth the extra fees which in the end will have you paying a rate well above the others.

It is time to renew or switch my electic plans since my 12-month contract with Tara is up and I thought I would share my Tara experience with you. Tara has met all contract agreements including a very good price. My bill and my father's bill are emailed to me monthly and I pay electronically thru our banks with no extra charges. With have had zero issues. It is time to renew and they offered four reduced rate plans. No complaints from me.

I used Tara energy for a year as they were the least expensive the last time I signed up. I did not have any problems and payed all of my bills online. I never had to contact customer support so I cant speak to that. I am changing providers now simply because I can get a better deal. Overall I was satisfied with their service.

Everytime I try to check in on my account, their website is down; can't say how incredibly frustrating that is. On the other hand, I sing their praises when I receive my bill, since I am saving in the neighborhood of $100-$200 a month during the summer with their great rates.
