Pros: Drastically Reduced Energy Charges during the Winter & Summer. Cons: Really high Energy Charges during the Autumn and Spring.

Our Review

TXU's Season Pass 12 is pretty interesting. The service windows are are Dec 1st through February 28 and June 1st through August 31st. During those specific months, the Energy Charge of this plan is 50% what it is during the other months, or "seasons," hence the plan name. The idea here is that customers will have cheaper energy during the hottest and coldest months of the years, and they'll pay more during the more mild seasons. This should, in theory, generally even out a customer's bill over the course of the year. It's an interesting concept. Of course, the question is if this is any different than just a fixed rate plan, which might offer the same benefit. The starting energy charge on this plan is still very high, but the 50% discount during the Seasonal months makes the charge pretty competitive. It's a 12 month plan with a $150 cancellation fee and a $9.95 monthly charge.

Who should buy this plan

This plan has a pretty unique value propoistion for customers. It allows customers to get discounted energy during the summer, when A/C units in Texas run wild, and the Winter, when many people want to crank up the heat. So in theroy, this is a good plan for anyone who wants to keep their home at 70 degrees year round, regadrless of the season. ANd they should be able to do this, with the bills being someone consistent throughout the year based on the discount working in conjunction with the usage. So if you never want to put a sweater on indoors in the winter, or sometimes want to get under a blanket in the summmer, this is a good plan.

TXU's Season Pass 12 is a 12 month, or 1 year, electricity plan. The plan has two windows where the energy charge is discounted 50%. Those windows are Dec 1 at 12:00 AM, through Februray 28th at 11:59 pm, or Winter. The other window is June 1st at 12:00 AM through August 31st at 11:59 PM. The other 6 months, the energy charge is very high. The plan has a $9.95 monthly recurring or base charge, and a cancellation fee of $150.
